Co-Curricular Classes

Art - Mrs. Meredith Thacker

Art exposes students to a variety of media and concepts in art, with an emphasis upon developing a trained eye, manual dexterity, and sensitivity to color, texture, and spatial relationships.  Students experiment with a variety of mixed media and study art history.

Drama - Mrs. Laura King

The drama program encourages students to develop personal and interpersonal skills and awareness, aesthetic sensitivity, and performance skills.  Drama is used both to support the core curriculum and as a discipline in its own right.  Through collaboration, cooperation, and creativity, students create theatre both in the classroom and on the big stage, with a culminating end-of-the-year production.

Library - Mr. Matthew Roberts

The library is a vital information resource for SGES students.  The library includes a large collection of books and reference materials as well as access to additional resources through the internet.  Students have high-speed internet access (filtered for appropriate content), allowing research opportunities through an educational search engine and online encyclopedia through networked computers available in the library, Computer Lab, and the classrooms.

Music - Mrs. Erin Mulder

Through sequential study, representative composers are studied for their unique contributions to music literature.  Music theory gives the student a fundamental understanding of music reading and mechanics by focusing on note reading, intervals, rhythm, meter, scales, and standard music technology.  Choral performances, beginning recorder, chimes and guitar are part of this unique classroom.  Private piano lessons are available for an additional fee.

Physical Education - Mr. Dan Keeley

Health, wellness, and fine physical development for each student are the objectives of our physical education program.  Students receive an introduction to all major sports, with an emphasis on fundamental skills, rules, sportsmanship, and specialized techniques.  Middle school students participate in several traveling team sports including cross country, basketball, tennis, golf and track.

Religion - Mrs. Pauline Brown

The sixth grade completes a one-year survey course on the Bible.  Other grades have religious studies and spiritual exercises woven through the curriculum.

Spanish - Sra. Candy Holland

St. George's innovative Spanish program gives students language skills for the real world.  Children in Pre-K through second grade develop concrete vocabulary skills.  In third through fifth grades students progress to oral and written story telling in a natural and narrative style.  Students in sixth through eighth grades study Spanish as a core subject.
