Welcome
The year 2011 was a time for celebration at St. George’s Episcopal School. The school completed its 15th year of service to the community, and it was a great opportunity to recount the many blessings God has allowed us to experience. Also in 2011, the school experienced another tremendous gift from Dr. William King, Jr., in honor of his wife, Mariella. Dr. King’s generosity has encouraged other supporters and to date we have over $230,000 in gifts and pledges from this campaign. We have been truly blessed.
The year 2011 brought about challenges. In May, our community was damaged by destructive tornados, and our vulnerability was exposed. However, even during this great time of suffering, there were many reasons to be thankful. Our middle school students graciously helped with clean up and provided for the needs of many who were affected by the storms. This experience provided an opportunity to reflect on the blessings of life and the temporal nature of materialism.
As we usher in a New Year, we anticipate the celebrations that we will encounter this year. This month we will have information available regarding next school year. We invite our current families to attend one of our cottage meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity for the board and administration to update our families on our strategic planning process, and to receive input from our parents. This is a meaningful time for our school community as we develop our strategic plan that will guide us over the next few years. We hope you can attend one of these meetings.
If you are considering St. George’s as a partner for your family, we encourage you to visit with us during the school day. We also have opportunities to learn more about our school during informal open house events. Our open house dates are:
Friday, January 20th – 6 pm – Be our guest for a basketball game and meet some of our existing families
Sunday, February 12th – 2 pm – Tour the campus and learn more about our programs
Tuesday, March 6th – 8 am – Visit the school during a school day
There are many ways to find out about a school, but those who know us best are our current families. In September, a parent survey found that:
- 100% of current families stated SGES teachers are concerned about my child as an individual
- 100% of current families stated SGES teachers and students have a good working relationship with each other
- 100% of current families stated SGES parents feel welcome at school
- 100% of current families stated SGES has a clean and pleasant environment
- 95% of current families stated my child is actively involved in the learning process
- 95% of current families stated that teachers hold high expectations for student learning
- 95% of current families stated the education program offered to students at SGES is of high quality
If you are interested in learning more about SGES, please contact Susan Bartholomew in our admission office (sbartholomew@sges.org). We hope to visit with you soon.
