Enrichment
Enrichment Curriculum Overview
In addition to the core academic subjects, SGES provides students with a rich variety of enrichment courses that support their intellectual, physical, and creative growth. Each of these subjects is designed to engage students in hands-on, experiential learning that complements their classroom studies.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)
Our STEAM curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary learning through hands-on projects and problem-solving activities. Students engage in science experiments, engineering challenges, and artistic creations that bring together math, technology, and design thinking. From building simple machines to coding robots, students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Bible
Bible classes offer students a foundation in Christian teachings, exploring stories and lessons from the Old and New Testaments. Students discuss moral values, learn about the life and teachings of Jesus, and participate in activities that encourage reflection on how faith can guide their daily lives. Lessons are designed to inspire a strong sense of community, kindness, and respect for others.
Technology
In Technology classes, students develop essential digital literacy skills. From basic typing and online research to coding and multimedia presentations, students are introduced to various forms of technology. They learn responsible internet use and digital citizenship, as well as how to use technology as a tool for learning and creativity. Activities include programming exercises, digital storytelling, and collaborative tech projects.
Music
Our Music program encourages students to explore their musical talents through vocal performance, instrumental study, and music theory. Students learn to read music, understand rhythm, and explore different musical genres and instruments. Singing in choir, playing percussion instruments, and performing in school concerts are key elements of the program. Music fosters self-expression, teamwork, and an appreciation of the arts.
Art
The Art curriculum allows students to express their creativity and imagination through various mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Students study famous artists and art movements, while also exploring their own personal style. Through individual and collaborative projects, they develop skills in observation, design, and problem-solving. Art classes also incorporate elements of cultural history and aesthetics.
Library
Library classes introduce students to a wide range of literature, helping to cultivate a love of reading. Students learn research skills, book selection strategies, and how to use library resources effectively. Storytime, book talks, and author studies enhance their literary experiences, while older students engage in research projects using both print and digital sources. The goal is to instill lifelong reading habits and critical thinking skills.
Physical Education (PE)
PE classes focus on physical fitness, coordination, and sportsmanship. Students participate in a variety of activities, including team sports, cooperative games, and fitness challenges. They learn about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and develop skills in teamwork, goal-setting, and perseverance. The PE program also emphasizes the values of respect, cooperation, and self-discipline in both individual and team activities.
Spanish
In Spanish classes, students develop their language skills through speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities. Vocabulary building, basic grammar, and conversational skills are introduced through interactive lessons, songs, and cultural explorations. Students also learn about Spanish-speaking countries and their traditions, making connections between language and culture. The program is designed to build foundational language skills while fostering an appreciation for diversity and global awareness.
This comprehensive enrichment curriculum provides students at SGES with a balanced education that nurtures their curiosity, creativity, and physical well-being, preparing them for success in and out of the classroom.
